Social Media Management

•(San Francisco, California and Accra, Ghana) - Victor Tieku (Nana Kweku Essel V Chief of Ekumfi Takyiman), founder of Kampsite Publishing and Kampsite Records, and peermusic’s Chairman & CEO, Ralph Peer II, have announced a joint initiative to further the development of West African music both in that region and in the world market. Through the initiative, Kampsite will have the benefit of close cooperation with peermusic’s global team, access to peermusic’s repertoire and international online representation through peermusic’s global B2B digital distribution network, digitalpressure.com. peermusic will enjoy representation of Kampsite’s repertoire of West African material outside of that Region, and the firms will work together to enhance global exploitation of the various West African genres -- both to the region’s Diaspora and to the international music market. In addition, the joint initiative will enable further outreach to songwriters in the community, enable local musicians to attend classes at The National Institute of Music based in Winneba, support the art of traditional African music, and implement opportunities to expose the music in the international marketplace. Initially based in Ghana, the venture plans eventually to extend its recording and publishing activities to other parts of the Region. “We are honored to be working with Victor who has been a mainstay of the Ghanaian musical scene for some years. It is exciting for peermusic to have access to the music of West Africa as the talents of this musically-rich region are little known elsewhere”, Peer commented, “our hope is to make this music more widely available thus enhancing the diversity of the international musical language.” “We are very excited about working with our friends at peermusic who have considerable global expertise,” noted Chief Tieku, “our task is not easy for we also need to work hard to enhance the local infrastructure for the benefit of the artists and composers of the region.” peermusic’s CFO Bill Gorjance commented, “Victor’s creativity, energy and commitment to the rights of composers and artists makes us very confident of the vital leadership he can provide in the Region. If anyone can succeed, he can, and we are extremely pleased to partner with him.” Kampsite owner, Victor Tieku, started in the music business as a musician and worked for many years with the legendary Nigerian artist Fela Kuti. He has stayed active in many phases of the business. He founded Kampsite in 1995, with offices and studios in Accra. About KampsiteVictor Tieku began his career in 1978 playing guitar and bass in Ghana and Nigeria, and soon joined Fela Kuti’s legendary Egypt 80 band for multiple world tours. After working in the US he returned to Ghana to establish Kampsite Records and Studios, filling a void in the West African music industry – namely the absence of trained digital recording engineers, good quality recording equipment and reasonable studio rates. The ensuing years brought great success for local musicians who patronized Kampsite, with repeat award-winning recordings. Victor helped launch the careers of many of today’s leading contemporary artists and sound engineers. The Ghanaian genre Hip Life – a blend of Highlife and Hip-Hop – was born and nurtured at Kampsite and still reigns supreme. The addition of a publishing partnership with peermusic will enable Kampsite to develop and further promote the interests of African composers and artists, locally and in the world market. About peermusicFounded by Ralph S. Peer in 1928, peermusic is a global network of music publishing companies operating from 35 offices in 28 countries.
